km/sqrt(mW) and reports/kJ
These two metrics are added here to showcase the performance of extreme QRP stations
km/sqrt(mW) : The range in kilometres divided by square root of power in milliwatts
The higher the power used the lower you score in the this metric. I have used square root
because generally range is proportional to the square root of the power employed.
So this metric tends to neutralize the use of increased power
reports/kJ : The number of reports divided by the energy used in kiloJoules
This is calculated over a chosen period of activity e.g. a day
Energy is power multiplied by duration of transmission. So high powers
and high duty cyle ( The number of transmissions per hour ) will reduce your score
For SARC MK1 boxes consider switching them off in lean periods!
Why kilojoules rather than joules?
This avoids fractional scores which are difficult to remember
